Updates to Outcome-Based Grazing Program Shared in New Webinars
The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) Outcome-Based Grazing program continues to grow in exciting directions. During this year’s virtual Society for Range Management Annual Meeting, the BLM shared updates from the program through a series of virtual webinars.
Through a 7-part series, the BLM National Lead for the Outcome-Based Grazing Initiative, Kathryn Dyer, provided audiences with updates on the program. Also included were a series of presentations from the Outcome-Based Grazing demonstration projects. These demonstration projects are in different stages of the process to incorporate flexibility into their livestock operations and are now sharing the progress made and their lessons learned.

As forward momentum for the Outcome-Based Grazing program continues, land managers are setting new goals and looking to widen the reach of the program. In 2022, the program aims to incorporate flexibility in livestock grazing permits on a larger scale and continue expanding the Outcome-Based Grazing efforts on fully processed grazing authorizations. To do this, approaches such as programmatic NEPA to analyze flexibility that can be fully incorporated into many permits will be explored.
“The Bureau is excited about the ability to continue expanding flexibility that can support the sustainability of the ecological systems while also supporting the sustainability of the ranches and communities”, said Dyer during her presentation.
As developments in flexibility of livestock grazing authorizations continue, updates will be included on the Outcome-based Grazing landing page on Partners in the Sage.
