What is the Sage Capacity Team?

The Sage Capacity Team is made of people supported by Partnering to Conserve Sagebrush Rangelands and many other conservation organizations. We believe that developing partnerships in communities across the West takes time, credibility, and relationship building among public and private partners. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Intermountain West Joint Venture (IWJV) are investing in people in priority landscapes to develop lasting conservation partnerships in the form of community-based conservation capacity.

Julie Unfried, Sage-grouse Local Implementation Team (LIT) Coordinator for the Vale and Prineville LITs, organized with local partners to host a field tour in May 2021. Staff from the Vale BLM District Office, Oregon Department of State Lands, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Natural Resource staff for the Burns Paiute Tribe showcased post fire recovery efforts one year after the 50,000-acre Indian Creek Fire. Twenty-five participants from various interest groups attended the field tour to see treatments and discuss ideas about how the LIT space could help streamline future response efforts.
