Joining the IWJV from Salmon, Idaho, Becca Aceto is the newest member of the team and will be stepping into the role of Sagebrush Communications Specialist. In this position, Becca is a part-time contractor tasked with implementing strategic communications that elevate the relevance of sagebrush rangeland conservation across the West.

Since receiving her Bachelor’s in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, she has worked for the Sawtooth National Forest as both a wildlife and rangeland technician, for the Payette National Forest as a wilderness ranger, and, most recently, for the Idaho Wildlife Federation as their Communications and Outreach Coordinator. Becca also holds volunteer leadership roles with the Lemhi Regional Land Trust and Artemis Sportswomen. Combining her passion for science communications with landscape-scale conservation, she is eager to help bridge the gap between science and stakeholders through this work.

“Connecting the West’s vast sagebrush country to people of various backgrounds through interesting and approachable communications is so important and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to dive into this work,” said Becca. “It’s an honor to be working alongside the many dedicated individuals that make up the IWJV.”

The goal of the cross-boundary Partnering to Conserve Sagebrush Rangelands effort is to bring about proactive, voluntary, community-led sagebrush rangeland conservation. Becca’s work as the Sagebrush Communications Specialist will support public land managers, agricultural producers, and additional partners through identifying and implementing messaging that will advance this work while resonating with diverse audiences.

“Becca is bringing an incredible suite of skills and experiences to our communications team that’s paired with a radiant dedication to conservation,” said Hannah Nikonow, IWJV’s Communications and Marketing Coordinator. “We are so thrilled to be working with her and telling new tales from the sagebrush sea.”

A normal afternoon for Becca might be bird hunting behind Hatch, her exuberant yellow lab, cross country skiing in quiet corners of central Idaho and western Montana, fly fishing one of the many tributaries of the Salmon River, or experimenting in the kitchen with hunted and foraged foods. She will be working remotely from Salmon, Idaho. You can reach Becca at: becca.aceto@iwjv.org.
