The Range and Wildlife Conservationist will be part of a collaborative effort to provide technical assistance to agricultural producers and landowners under the Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW) efforts, the Sage Grouse Initiative, and Farm Bill conservation programs. This is a full-time, salaried position based in Burley, Idaho.

The incumbent will be expected to work independently and build strong working relationships with area landowners, land managers, and other partners. This role provides an opportunity to create real and lasting change across southern Idaho landscapes for both people and wildlife.

Position Description:

The Range and Wildlife Conservationist is a full-time position based out of Burley, Idaho. The individual will work closely with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Pheasants Forever to further the delivery of NRCS Working Lands For Wildlife (WLFW) Efforts. Job duties include:

  • Coordinating and participating in field work activities for sage grouse, mule deer, and other habitat project implementation through work with agricultural producers and agencies.

  • Outreach, coordination, and relationship-building with area ranchers, private landowners, local business-economic interests, non-governmental organizations, and local community groups.

  • Assisting with the development of conservation plans requiring biological and rangeland science expertise in cooperation with partners.

  • Landscape-level conservation planning and project prioritization support.

  • Participating in and/or facilitating partner meetings to increase understanding of all the conservation programs available to landowners.

  • Marketing and public outreach regarding WLFW and other programs across the region.

The Range and Wildlife Conservationist should expect to develop autonomy in their work plan while utilizing a strong understanding of range science and wildlife ecology to achieve project objectives.

The successful applicant will be an employee of Pheasants Forever Inc. with instruction and leadership provided by the ID-NRCS Range Management Specialist and District Conservationist and will coordinate closely with BLM, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and US Forest Service staff.
